Two years as a sub-warden at Imperial College halls of residence (1998-2000). Responsible for pastoral welfare, safety, and social events of a 70 student hall.
Best research poster at the Royal Institution's Annual Research Meeting 2000.
Undergraduate degree sponsored by British Steel 1993-1998.
1st year representative to Materials Department Staff Student Committee (1993-94). Represented views and opinions of peers to the department staff and reported feedback.
Head of school 1991-92. Responsible for peer level discipline and organization of a 300 member school as head of a senior student team.
Sergeant Major in the Combined Cadets Force 1986-92. Responsible for supervision and teaching of junior members of the Cadets during training and competition.

IT SKILLS

System administration experience on UNIX, LINUX and Windows NT operating systems. Redesigned and implemented upgrade of research group's network, OS, and security.
Familiar with administering WEB hosting, network queueing, backups, and security encryption systems.
Programming skills in PERL, C, HTML, and FOCUS.
User experience with Microsoft \& Lotus Office suits, CASCADE, GULP, and RS1.

INTERESTS

Keen interest in science fiction, collecting memorabilia, and attending conventions.
Study the practical and philosophical aspects of the Martial Arts, especially Aikido.

Defense Clothing and Textiles Agency(MOD), Colchester( Summer 1998).
Reviewed research into metallic personal protection materials. Assisted in the organizing and running of the Personal Armour System Symposium (PASS '98); responsible for IT and multimedia systems. Also employed to run IT systems during PASS 2000.
British Steel Research, Surface Science Section, Swinden (April 1998 to May 1998).
Used SNMS depth profiling and XPS surface analysis techniques to study the surface chemistry of steels coatings as part of continuing process development.
British Steel Project Logistics, Teesside (Summer 1997).
Combined local operations knowledge with process data to compile a "Time Compression Study" of the supply chain of a coil plate mill.
British Steel Research, Casting and Re-heating Section, Teesside (Summer 1996).
Analysis of process data to investigate possible causes of longitudinal face cracking 12" continually cast steel slab.
British Steel Technical, Continuous Casting Plant, Teesside (April 1996 to July 1996).
Recording and analysis of quality control data and links to process abnormalities affecting product. Work involved interrogation of process control databases and off-line data analysis to prove interrelationships between process parameters and operating theories.
British Steel Technical, Metallurgical Services, Teesside (October 1995 to March 1996).
Reporting on evaluation of new products, analysis of complaints, and investigation into failures. Lab work involved ultrasonic and thermal non-destructive evaluation, hardness testing, light microscopy, chemical analysis, and sulphur printing.
British Steel Technical, Coke Ovens, Teesside (Summer 1995).
Development of a statistical model for coke oven fuel consumption. Creation of an intuitive PC based monthly reporting and trend analysis system to present quality and environmental performance data for distribution across the company.

Product trial and investigation work targeted towards development of new processing routes for hot rolled beams. Compilation of process capability data as part of the plant's application for Japanese market entry permission.
Brunner Mond & Co. Ltd., Cheshire (June 1992 to August 1993).
Placed as part of the "Year in Industry" program. Working in "Engineering Standards and Design Group" which involved design, installation, and commissioning control system solutions for plant operations.
